The University of Gastronomic Sciences in Pollenzo this Tuesday February 18 held the Opening Ceremony for the Accademic Year 2013-2014. Starting with the performance of the official choir of the University followed by the remarks of Dean Grimaldi who aknowledged the first ten years of accademic life of this University, giving a broad perspective of how the university has evolved, it now hosts students from 70 different countries who are formed in a scientific but holistic approach. Most importantly “it has been a decade of research, working with strategic partners taking the University’s experience of interdisciplinarity and dynamism to a whole new level, opening the field of gastronomy to a better ecological interpretation”.
The student body was represented by Stacy Stout and Domitilla Giuliani who spoke about the importance of knowing the land where we come from in order to move forward as well as an emphasis on unity; “Division poses weakness” said Stacy Stout who strongly stated that the University unites us into a network of minds and by “uniting we revel in each other differences” calling all present to use the university as lever to advance together.
The audience heard the words of Antonia Pasqua Recchia, the General Director from the Ministry of Goods and Cultural Activities who mentioned the practice of sharing food and culture as “the main elements that maintain a strong relationship between the Ministry of Goods, Cultural Activities and Tourism and the University of Gastronomic sciences because they share the philosophy of Slow Food”.
Carlo Petrini as charismatic as always brought all the concepts previously mentioned together. “The exchange and enrichment that the first decade of the University have brought to the community have been of great pleasure despite the dificulties we have faced during these years”. Taking the oportunity to inspire the students, future gastronomes, to be the network that will “put food in the right place, to always have an integrated and holistice vision because this is the challenge of the century”.
